One Car. One Rental. 24 Hours.
People see a Lamborghini on Sheikh Zayed Road and wonder who is driving it, and where it is going. So we followed one of ours for a full day to find out.
The car is our Lamborghini Urus S: 666 horsepower, 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and five seats. The renter is a visitor landing in Dubai for a long weekend. What follows is a typical 24-hour rental, pieced together from the kind of bookings our team handles every week.
5:45 am: Before the City Wakes Up
The day starts in the dark at our base in Azizi Riviera, MBR City. While Dubai sleeps, the Urus gets the treatment every car gets before a handover.
- A full hand wash and interior detail, down to the stitching on the seats.
- Tyre pressures, fluids and brakes checked by our technicians.
- A full tank, so the renter never starts the day hunting for a petrol station.
- Time-stamped photos of every panel and wheel, shared with the renter at handover so both sides see the same car.
The documents were checked the night before on WhatsApp: passport, visit visa, home licence and International Driving Permit. By 6:30 am the booking is confirmed and the keys are in the driver’s pocket.
8:00 am: The Hotel Forecourt Moment
The Urus rolls onto the forecourt of [a Downtown Dubai hotel], 30 minutes after the renter’s “ready when you are” message. Our driver walks through the controls in five minutes: the ANIMA drive selector, the launch screen and the boot that swallows two suitcases.
There is no deposit to block on a card and no paperwork at the kerb. The doorman takes the first photo of the day, and the bellboys take the second.
9:00 am: Breakfast Under the Burj
First stop is the boulevard below Burj Khalifa, before the tour buses arrive. The light is soft, the streets are empty, and the Urus sits in Strada mode, quiet enough to forget there is a twin-turbo V8 up front.
This is when most renters take the photo they will post that night. Our tip: shoot low, from the front three-quarter, with the tower rising behind the bonnet.
11:00 am: Business Class on Four Wheels
Our renter has a meeting in DIFC, 10 minutes up Sheikh Zayed Road. The Urus pulls into valet looking exactly like the kind of partner you want to be doing business with.
This is the quiet secret of the Urus. It is a supercar that does not need an excuse, because it also does the school run, the airport run and the client meeting. Read more in our guide to the best luxury cars for business meetings in Dubai.
1:00 pm: Lunch on the Palm
Across to Palm Jumeirah for lunch at [a beach club on the Palm]. The drive down the trunk road, with the Atlantis arch filling the windscreen, is one of the most photographed in the city.
The Urus waits in the shade while its driver eats. Every few minutes someone stops to take a picture of it.
4:30 pm: Chasing Golden Hour in Al Qudra
This is the part of the day the Urus was built for. Our renter heads inland to the Al Qudra desert road, under an hour from the Marina, and switches the drive selector from Strada to Sport.
The exhaust opens up, the steering firms, and the long empty tarmac does the rest. At the lakes, the sun drops behind the dunes and turns the paint the same colour as the sand.
A word of advice we give every renter: the Urus has a Sabbia (sand) mode, but stay on the tarmac.
8:00 pm: Dinner and the Valet Line
Back in the city for dinner at [a restaurant in Dubai Marina or City Walk]. The valet line at a Dubai restaurant on a Friday night is a car show of its own. The Urus holds its own in a queue of G-Classes and Rolls-Royces.
11:30 pm: Sheikh Zayed Road After Dark
The best drive in Dubai is not a mountain road. It is Sheikh Zayed Road close to midnight, when the traffic thins and the towers on both sides light up like a runway.
Windows down, Strada mode, steady at the limit. The cameras on this road never sleep, and neither does the skyline.
8:00 am, Day Two: Handing Back the Keys
Our driver arrives at the hotel at the agreed time. There is no drop-off queue and no rushing to the airport with a rental desk to find.
We walk round the car together, compare it with the photos from yesterday morning, and read the odometer. Tolls and any fines are settled afterwards, so the renter heads to breakfast with nothing left to do.
By 9:30 am the Urus is back in the wash bay at MBR City. By noon it is ready for its next 24 hours.
